When a ship carrying people from all over the world docks at the harbor of the big city, Martin curiously runs to the quay. There he meets Upendo, who looks completely different from him: Upendo has such dark skin that Martin immediately thinks of chocolate and playfully bites into Upendo's arm to "taste" and confirm his assumption. Upendo does not find this funny at all, but thinks that Martin is as white as cream and also bites to taste. Martin does not like that at all. Both boys quickly realize that they are more alike than they initially thought: A bite on the arm always hurts—regardless of whether one has dark or light skin—and skin color has nothing to do with chocolate or cream.
