Robert Mohwinkel is not a hero. On the contrary: he tries to adapt completely wherever he can. In his family, at school, during his training as a ship broker in the old harbor of Bremen, in the Wehrmacht, the young dreamer always wants to blend in and remains a follower. Only when dancing does he come alive, yet he still remains too stiff. It is only after World War II, when times have changed and old-school wallflowers are no longer in demand, that he awakens. But even then, he doesn't quite get it right.
