The horrors and wounds of World War I run deep in front-line soldier Georg Löffler, who cannot come to terms with peace. He sees himself as a victim and begins a desperate, blind fight as a criminal and murderer against the new order, against the society in which he seems to have no place as an individual. In the end, he is left with only one way out: Graf's most radical novel, which perhaps remains his least known book precisely because of its destructive violence.
