Villa Waldberta in Feldafing, situated high above Lake Starnberg in a spacious park, was built in 1901/02 as part of the Höhenberg colony. From the very beginning, this stately house served as a meeting place for cosmopolitans and artists, but it also held political significance: After World War II, the villa was used for many years to house Displaced Persons, individuals persecuted by the Nazi regime who had become homeless due to the war or its aftermath. In 1972, during the Olympic Games in Munich, then-Chancellor Willy Brandt stayed at the villa and hosted international politicians such as George Pompidou and Henry Kissinger there. Since 1966, the house has been owned by the state capital Munich through a private foundation. In 1982, the city council decided to open Villa Waldberta to international scholars in the fields of literature and art.
