Journalist and critic Florian Bissig felt that a conversation about poetry was needed, and began writing weekly interpretations of a Swiss poem for Switzerland am Wochenende. Whether he focuses on classics like Robert Walser, Eugen Gomringer, or Silja Walter, or contemporaries like Ilma Rakusa, Jürg Halter, or Klaus Merz, Bissig is not primarily concerned with literary historical classification or aesthetic judgment. What he presents are readings of twenty Swiss poems from the past hundred years—nothing more, nothing less. He expands the horizon of meaning, makes the cryptic comprehensible and the intuitive explicit, showcases well-known writers from a new perspective, revives forgotten poets, and introduces young authors who deserve more recognition.
