The use of children's work for the education of adults cannot consist in merely copying it, but rather in deriving principles that must be examined in order to adapt them to different conditions. In addition to her globally recognized basic education concept for children, the Italian reform educator Maria Montessori also made considerations regarding adult education—particularly concerning literacy acquisition among native language illiterates. Christiane Rokitzki is now practically testing elements from Montessori's methodological approach in German as a foreign language courses for learners who are not (Latin) literate. She demonstrates which methodological elements and materials can be transferred to foreign language teaching and which (foreign) language and written aspects are applicable.
