Product details
There is nothing more important than clearly defining goals in projects. There is nothing more detrimental than achieving exactly the opposite of what is intended as a goal. To analyze these two poles, we have coined the terms "telic" and "antitelic." In all dynamically complex systems, antitelic behavior is paradoxically not the exception, but rather the rule. We modern humans live in a connected, globalized world, where actions always have numerous side effects and long-term consequences. For evolution, this rapid development was too short to produce genetically anchored novel thinking abilities in Homo sapiens. The thinking patterns we are equipped with are sufficient for detail complexity, but when it comes to dynamic system complexity, they often lead to achieving exactly the opposite of the intended goal. We see the solution in heuristic methods for recognizing these patterns and in thinking and action strategies to overcome the dilemma of trying to solve dynamic complexity with linear thinking patterns. Our primary concern is not which politicians or other stakeholders in our society are "right," but rather the questions of what goals they have defined and whether the most important variables have been considered, including those of interconnectedness, long-term effects, and side effects. How can we encourage politicians and other decision-makers to clearly define goals and then pursue them, rather than drifting away from them? We need goal wisdom.
