The railway photographs of the Dresden-based Werner Hubert hold a prominent place among railway enthusiasts. Hubert was one of the founding members of the German Locomotive Image Archive established in 1929 by the Darmstadt student body. All locomotive and railcar series were to be portrayed according to a uniform photography standard. Werner Hubert's collection of glass plates and photographs was completely destroyed during the devastating air raid on Dresden in February 1945. It is thanks to the active sale of prints and exchanges with like-minded individuals such as Hermann Maey, Carl Bellingrodt, Rudolf Kallmünzer, and Rudolf Kreutzer that some of Werner Hubert's images still exist today. After the war, Carl Bellingrodt reproduced several of Hubert's photographs, mostly borrowed ones. However, this photo book primarily features original prints from the hands of Werner Hubert.
