Both in politics and in science, images of aging are receiving increasing attention. However, there are currently no scientifically established answers to many questions about images of aging, particularly regarding the conditions for the change of these images. This volume suggests the assumption that many images of aging are tied to specific social structures such as organizations, institutions, or situations. The contributions in this volume examine images of aging in the following contexts that are particularly important for the lives of older or aging individuals: in the workplace, in services related to trade and consumption, in healthcare, and in caregiving. Overall, the contributions support the thesis that the manifestation and change of the examined images of aging depend on the nature and transformation of social structures.
