Whole Soul - Persephone, whole Human Spirit - Demeter: Thus, these figures present themselves to us in the sacred drama of Eleusis. The series of reports from the Medical Section is named Persephone. It is the fate of the soul to work its way through the darkness of the earth to the light of the spirit. Illness and error accompany this path. The forces of the depths of the earth (Persephone in Hades) and the heights of heaven (Persephone united with Dionysus and Mother Demeter) require harmonious alignment if health and knowledge are to be attained.
