An idyll in a protected landscape area and Stuttgart amidst the tumult of a new protest movement. Two aging couples and the despair of a young father. Since the 1970s, Emil Bub and his wife, a librarian, have lived on the Schwarzer Berg. A refuge, until the doctor couple Rau buys the neighboring house one day. The childless Bubs quickly "adopt" Peter, the little son of the neighbors. Emil draws Peter deeply into his cosmos of Swabian scholarship and moderate anarchy, finding in him an eager and teachable student. Since Peter moved in with his girlfriend Mia, they rarely see each other. In the summer of 2010, Emil, now just before retirement, observes Peter returning to his parents' house. Mia has disappeared with the sons. For one summer, the two older couples fight for the well-being of the desperate young man. In search of Mia.
