13th century: A small group of warriors and mystics takes up their swords to save Europe from a bloodthirsty Mongol invasion. Led by the Elder of an order of monk-warriors, they embark on a dangerous journey and encounter riddles about hidden knowledge and conflicts between powerful secret societies that have significantly influenced the events of the world for millennia. However, the saga eventually reaches the modern world through a roundabout way: at the end of the 19th century, Sir Richard F. Burton, an expert in foreign languages and historical fencing, comes into contact with a mysterious group of English martial arts enthusiasts who want to translate a collection of long-lost writings. Burton dies before he can complete his work, and his translations up to that point were considered lost until they were recently discovered.
