Today's image practice, such as immersive art, cyborg art, virtual architecture, artificial life, and bio-art, liberates the activity of the image, which has previously been trapped in the aesthetic virtual dimension. Now, the image can assert itself as a true living being by manifesting in a body or material, thus gaining the opportunity to actively participate in natural history. In the image practice of virtual art, the image, which has been a simulacrum, comes to life. To become a perfect image, the image elevates itself and demonstrates its liveliness in reality. Virtual art addresses this iconoclastic impulse and captures today's transgression of the image. The publication, which stems from the author's dissertation, critically and theoretically examines contemporary image practice.
