Wallace Wattles inspired filmmaker Rhonda Byrne to her worldwide success "The Secret." The author spent many years studying religions and philosophies until he made the laws of resonance and abundance the focus of his writings. He also significantly influenced famous success teachers like Napoleon Hill and Anthony Robbins.
Wallace Wattles was born in 1860 in Illinois to parents from New York. He spent his youth working as a farm laborer in Nunda Township, McHenry County. His father was a gardener, and his mother worked in the household. As a young man, he studied European thinkers such as Descartes, Hegel, Leibniz, Schopenhauer, Spinoza, and Swedenborg, as well as the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson, who connected German idealism and Indian philosophies.
Since 1896, he advocated a form of Christian socialism and wrote for "Nautilus," the leading magazine of the New Thought movement, on the law of attraction. His major work "The Science of Getting Rich," published in 1910, a year before his death, inspired filmmaker Rhonda Byrne to create "The Secret," which became a worldwide success as a DVD and book. In 2009, AMRA published "The Laws of Success and Resonance," his two fundamental writings on the law of attraction, which also served as source material for his major work.
