Product details
Jakob Christoph Heer (1859-1925) is considered one of the most successful representatives of the Swiss Heimat novel. "At Holy Waters" is among the most well-known works of the widely read Swiss storyteller, alongside the novels "The King of Bernina," "Joggeli," and "The Weather Watcher." This novel is set in the arid Swiss canton of Valais, where farmers must extract precious water from the glaciers through wooden pipes. The mountain has already claimed many victims. Therefore, the people of Valais speak reverently of the "Holy Water." Once again, an avalanche threatens at the glacier's edge, which, if it occurs, will destroy the water pipes on the steep walls and cause the wells in the village of St. Peter to run dry. An ancient law dictates: A volunteer must go out onto the wall, and fate takes its course. Reprint of the complete original edition, undated.
