Sculpture is primarily viewed in the form of photographic representations. However, it is often overlooked that the transformation into another medium creates an independent interpretation of the artwork. Based on the works of Ernst Barlach, Gerhard Marcks, Arno Breker, Gustav Seitz, Norbert Kricke, Bernhard Heiliger, and other sculptors, Karoline Schröder demonstrates for the first time how artworks, especially in the context of their publication as print products, reflect the political, social, and artistic upheavals in Germany between 1920 and 1970.
