The activist and philosopher Daniel Bensaïd presents his compelling political autobiography "An Impatient Life," in which the individual and the collective, theory and practice intersect, contradict, and reconcile. The "I" and the "we," personal and shared experiences, testify to a political life that began in France in the 1960s. Bensaïd recounts his youth in Toulouse, shaped by Spanish Republicans, the beginnings of the 1968 movement in the French provinces and in Paris, as well as the painful experience of the Argentine left. He discusses the re-reading of Marx, tells of Marrano communism, and reflects on the struggles from yesterday to today. Global political events, such as the Algerian War and the anti-colonial solidarity movement, which gave rise to the left in France that emerged in May 1968, are also highlighted.
