Shortly after Siddhartha Gotama experienced his enlightenment under the Tree of Wisdom, he began to deliver his first sermon in front of five ascetic companions, the earliest Buddhist monastic community. From that day on, he traveled and spoke for 45 years to people from all walks of life about his experiences, knowledge, and wisdom. The teachings were orally passed down by his disciples long after Siddhartha's death and were later recorded.
