In their search for fairy tales from around the world, the Brothers Grimm came across Irish fairy tales. They transport their readers to the realms of the Banshee, Pooka, and Cluricaun, ghostly women, leprechauns, and other fairy beings. They tell stories of the white calf and the witch's horse, the enchanted lake and the cursed castle. The Grimms translated the collection into German, providing us with captivating insights into the treasure trove of tales populated by otherworldly beings in Ireland. The author remained anonymous at the time; the brothers could not have known that they were dealing with a colleague, the antiquarian Thomas Crofton Croker.
