What is a legal system? Can the content and validity of legal norms be determined independently of moral assumptions? What characterizes the rule of law? These fundamental questions have been discussed in the Anglo-American context over the past few decades under the heading of "general jurisprudence." The classical contrast between "positivism" and "natural law" has been sharpened in its contours, while also being fundamentally problematized.
