The author of this textbook on the anatomy, mechanics, facial expressions, and proportions of the human body, August von Froriep (1849-1917), was a German anatomist. He primarily focused on the morphology and development of the head and spine. In 1885, he was elected as a member of the Leopoldina. Shortly before his death, he was admitted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences. The work is illustrated with numerous black-and-white images and 38 black-and-white plates. It is a reprint of the original edition from 1899.
