And call yourself lucky
German, Rose Foreigner, 2010Product details
Although Rose Ausländer had been confined to her sickbed since 1978 and the past as a persecuted Jew weighed heavily on her, her poetry in old age radiates confidence: "It is an unreservedly life-affirming attitude that inspires Rose Ausländer. Wherever life approaches her, she opens up with her enduring enthusiasm" (Beatrice Eichmann-Leutenegger). Not even the awareness of her impending death could dampen this joy of living. On the contrary - life and death, dying and rebirth, this world and the next were closely intertwined for Rose Ausländer: "Let me bloom / for you / beauty / It means / to bloom and / to die." The volume contains poems from the years 1982 to 1983. They were first published in the cycles 'To the South a Warmer Land Awaits' (1982), 'Only Death Breathes So Securely' (1983), and 'I Count the St.
