Product details
Peter Handke on Zlatko Krasni: Ten years ago, I traveled to Smederovo with Zlatko Krasni. A hundred poets from around the world were supposed to come. It was October 1998, the day when the NATO bombs against Yugoslavia were expected. On the plane to Belgrade, I kept looking at the sky: bombs, where? - They didn't come until five months later, on March 24, 1999. But the threat was enough, and of the announced 100 poets, only three showed up: one from Iraq, one from Argentina, and me. Thus, it became a genuine world poets' meeting. Zlatko Krasni said this to me as a memory, and now he and I say it. In Smederovo, I received the "Golden Key," which Kito Lorenz is receiving today (for which I am happy). The key hangs here in France above my front door. Although it is not made of gold, it represents Smederovo to me every morning.
