Andreas von Tuhr (February 14, 1864 in St. Petersburg; December 16, 1925 in Zurich) was a German lawyer from Russia. He is considered one of the most important legal scholars of his time. Tuhr's books have been translated into various languages and have significantly influenced civil law. Von Tuhr was born in Russia. His father held the position of an imperial Russian state councilor and senator. His parents later moved to Baden-Baden. Von Tuhr studied at the universities of Heidelberg, Leipzig, and Strasbourg. During this time, he was influenced by the ideas of Bernhard Windscheid and Ernst Bekker. He earned his doctorate in Heidelberg in 1885 with summa cum laude. In 1888, he habilitated with the topic of state of emergency in civil law for R.
