Andrzej Czuma (December 7, 1938, in Lublin, Poland) is a Polish politician, lawyer, and historian. He served as Minister of Justice in Donald Tusk's government from January 23, 2009, to October 7, 2009. He was a long-time opposition activist during the People's Republic of Poland, faced persecution and repression, and has lived in exile since the 1980s. As of 2008, he is an activist for the Polish diaspora and a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. Andrzej Czuma is a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Warsaw and the founder of the anti-communist Freedom Movement Ruch. In June 1970, he was arrested by the communist government of the People's Republic of Poland and sentenced to seven years in prison for an attempted overthrow of the socialist system. At that time, Czuma was the founder and spokesperson of the Movement for the Defense of Human and Civil Rights (ROPCiO) as well as an editor.
