Andy Schmid, born on August 30, 1983, in Horgen, Canton of Zurich, is a Swiss handball player. Schmid played for Grasshopper Club Zurich until 2007. He then joined ZMC Amicitia Zurich, with whom he won the championship twice. In the 2009/10 season, Schmid played for the Danish club Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, primarily in the center back position. On March 29, 2010, Rhein-Neckar Löwen announced the signing of Schmid for the 2010/11 season. Schmid received a four-year contract. So far, Schmid has played 115 international matches for Switzerland, scoring 503 goals (as of March 29, 2010). He made his debut on December 19, 2003, in an international match against the Luxembourg national team.
