Andy Spyra (born in 1984 in Hagen) is a German photographer and photojournalist. Spyra gained recognition for his predominantly black-and-white photographs from crisis regions. After graduating from high school in Hagen, Spyra traveled through Central America and Southeast Asia, where he discovered his passion for photography. He then decided to become a professional photographer and worked for a year as a freelance photographer for a newspaper in Hagen. In 2007, he began studying photojournalism and documentary photography at the University of Applied Sciences in Hanover. Spyra is known for his images from Kashmir, the Middle East, and Bosnia, which he captured using a Holga, a very inexpensive plastic medium-format camera.
