This book deals with the history of cinema in Austria from 1938 to 1945, focusing particularly on the structure and organization of the cinema and film industry within the Nazi regime. The main sources included interviews and a unique collection of documents from the Reichsfilmkammer preserved in Vienna. Among other topics, it presents the film and cinema economic interconnections between Austria and the German Reich up to 1938, as well as the covert takeover of power in this area, along with the cultural policy of the Nazi state exemplified by the instruments of Nazi film and cinema policy. A major focus is on the extensive Aryanizations that affected half of the cinemas in Vienna, along with their structural impacts on the post-war period.
