The ideal combination: compact mathematics textbooks and the learning program LeTTo. This is the first in a series of five textbooks on applied mathematics for Higher Technical Institutes in Austria. Starting from the 9th grade, each volume covers one academic year, with the fifth volume dedicating significant space to preparation for the standardized maturity examination (Abitur). The books address both classical school mathematics with a focus on technical applications and aspects of engineering mathematics that extend far beyond the curriculum of secondary schools. The curriculum for applied mathematics at Higher Technical Institutes includes a wide range of topics that seem independent of one another. The author adopts an integrative approach from the outset. The connections between the individual topics for application in technical questions are consistently highlighted. The collection of exercises is linked to the learning program LeTTo. This program allows for individualized examples, and learners receive immediate feedback on the accuracy of their entered solutions. Thus, the books can also be used by students for independent learning of the material. The first volume largely covers the curriculum for the first year at Higher Technical Institutes in Austria. This includes, in the first part, the fundamentals of propositional logic and set theory, number spaces and calculations with units, calculations with variables and expressions, solving equations and systems of equations, and the introduction of functions, with a focus on linear functions. The second part concentrates on geometry, trigonometry of right triangles, and the basics of vector calculus.
