The twin town of Annaberg-Buchholz in the upper Erzgebirge was created by mining and is still strongly influenced by it today. Three show mines and other technical monuments, including the famous Frohnauer Hammer, belong to the Montan heritage, but also the impressive St. Annen church with the wonderful mountain altar by Hans Hesse.
