Anne Begenat-Neuschäfer, born on July 19, 1953, in Idar-Oberstein, is a German Romance scholar. She earned her doctorate in 1983 in Marburg with a dissertation on the Théâtre du Soleil and completed her habilitation there in 1995. Subsequently, she became a professor in Osnabrück in 1995. In 1998, she received her doctorate again at the University of Paris. Since 1998, she has been a university professor for Romance literary studies at the Institute of Romance Philology at RWTH Aachen. Her teaching and research focuses include particularly the Francophone literature of Belgium (Henry Bauchau, René Kalisky, Pierre Mertens, Thomas Owen, Paul Willems), contemporary French theater (Théâtre du Soleil), the French Renaissance and the Wars of Religion (Agrippa d'Aubigné, Théodore de Bèze, Jean Calvin, Marguerite de Navarre), as well as the Italian Renaissance with a focus on Venice and Ferrara (Matteo Bandello).
