Anne Golon (born Simone Changeux) (December 19, 1921, in Toulon, France) is a French writer known for her series of novels featuring her heroine Angélique. Anne Golon was born into the home of a naval captain who dreamed of publishing a book with colored airmail postcards. Anne did the colorings for this project and discovered her first passion, painting. Her second passion emerged at the age of 18: writing. She wrote her first book "Au pays de derrière mes yeux" (A Land Behind My Eyes). At barely 20 years old, she had to flee Paris on a bicycle during World War II from the invading German army, making her way to Spain.
