Klein served as a member of the Austrian National Council from 1998 to 1999. She attended primary school from 1942 to 1952 and secondary school from 1952 to 1956. After that, she completed an apprenticeship between 1956 and 1959 and attended a commercial vocational school for retail and wholesale. Subsequently, she worked as a retail salesperson from 1956 to 1960 and became a vintner starting in 1969. In November 2001, Klein was awarded the professional title of Economic Advisor.
