The Anthologia Graeca (a compilation of the Anthologia Palatina from the 10th century and the collection organized around 1300 by the monk Maximos Planudes) contains over 4,000 Greek epigrams from the mid-5th century BC to the Byzantine Middle Ages. This selection of 275 poems provides a representative cross-section that reflects the various chronological layers of the vast corpus and showcases its thematic diversity: erotic poems ranging from tender to obscene, dedicatory and epitaph epigrams, admonitory and contemplative verses, satirical lines, and drinking songs, as well as riddles and playful compositions are presented to today's reader in faithful prose translations like never before.
