This study sheds light on the issue of media education from various and general perspectives. A historical-systematic research approach examines the development of school media against a backdrop of consciousness and media history. Beginning with Comenius's 'pammethodical textbooks,' the lines of argument in pedagogical discussions are scrutinized to determine whether they provide insights for assessing the current discourse. It becomes evident that the problem of the relationship between humans and media has been overlooked to this day. This question is explored in depth. As a result, anthropological foundations emerge, which are oriented towards the concept of salutogenesis discussed in medicine. Based on this, the fundamental principles of an anthropological media education are described and illustrated with examples.
