In an introductory and comprehensive overview, the concept of the Holy Grail is examined in relation to the spiritual and physical development of human beings. The resulting impulse in human development is traced as it manifested over the first centuries after Christ. Thus, the first active hour of the Grail impulse lies in the emergence of Johannine Christianity, which declined towards the end of the fourth century but re-emerged in a metamorphosed form as a karmic stream - among other places, in the Order of the Templars.
