The focus of this work is on the long-chain, aliphatic esters of cellulose. Although this class of substances has been researched for decades, many fundamental questions remain unanswered. It is assumed that these derivatives have significant potential as substitutes for petrochemical materials. However, to meet the complex demands of new applications, systematic investigations into the structure-property relationships are necessary.
