The European tool manufacturing industry has been under significant pressure for several years due to high overcapacities. Only through a targeted application of expertise in the design and production of tools can tool manufacturing in high-wage countries ensure high customer benefits with their tools, justifying higher prices. The indirect planning activities in order processing within tool manufacturing often involve a significantly higher degree of improvisation compared to series production. Thus, while project management and work planning are carried out with considerable effort, they do not always focus on the right areas, often neglecting potential uncertainties of custom manufacturing and therefore are not always feasible. As a result, there is often a need for replanning in tool manufacturing, or tools are produced without regard to the planning.
