The terms and conditions of manufacturing companies have undergone profound changes over the past decade. Constantly increasing cost pressure, an unstoppable acceleration of competition, the shift from a seller's market to a buyer's market, as well as continuously emerging technological applications and opportunities are just some of the developments that companies are increasingly facing. One area particularly affected by this is assembly. As the final stage in the product creation process, assembly has to cope with increased demands in terms of variety, dynamics, and speed like no other area, making it a key role in the manufacturing industry. However, in light of this, suitable methods and tools are lacking for many tasks in assembly. Targeted research and implementation efforts are required.
