Acute and chronic damage to the kidneys have far-reaching consequences for the entire organism and result in significantly increased morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic measures are limited and rarely target the actual cause of the disease. The renal tubules have a high potential to regenerate after acute damage, which is significant for the development of a therapy. Therefore, regenerative mechanisms in the tubule as well as in the glomerulus have been investigated.
