Hermann Baur (1894-1980) is considered one of the most significant architects of Swiss pre- and post-war modernism. The buildings of the General Trade School and the School of Design in Basel represent the importance of public buildings in his work. Furthermore, they are testimonies to a functionality in concrete and the integration of art and architecture. This publication was prompted by the completion of renovation work on this remarkable group of buildings, which allows for a new perspective on this Swiss architectural classic and provokes thought.
