Seventy years after the end of the Third Reich, numerous architectural remnants from the Nazi era still exist in Europe. This book presents a significant selection of this controversial heritage in German and Austrian cities. The architectural elements—endless colonnades, monotonous block structures—are characteristic features of Neoclassicism; a design language that was also employed in the democratic states of the 1920s and 1930s. In the totalitarian Nazi state, certain trademarks (Reich eagle, swastika, or heroic reliefs) were incorporated as corporate design. The predominantly pictorial work, which contains nearly 350 black-and-white and color images, primarily addresses the visual aspect of over 100 Nazi buildings, for example in Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Weimar, Dresden, and Frankfurt am Main, as well as Vienna.
