Fifteen years ago, the old woman Bräunig disappeared without a trace after a visit to the casino. Eleven years later, an unknown person opened manhole covers in the sewers of Ludwigshafen at night. In the process, the body of Mrs. Bräunig was discovered in an underground grease trap. However, the trail went cold, and no one knows who lifted the covers. Four years later, manholes are once again found open in Lautringen, forty kilometers away. Now the case lands in the hands of Detective Inspector Bettina Boll. Initially, she does not believe that the open manhole covers in Lautringen are truly connected to the old Bräunig case. But suddenly, there is also a dead body in the sewer shaft here.
