The Yellow Star was published in late autumn 1960 as one of the first books on the subject. It remains a standard work to this day, still cited as a source. The book has been unanimously praised by critics both domestically and internationally as an outstanding documentation and has undergone numerous new editions, paperback releases, and translations over the past decades. Many of the photos published here for the first time have since become icons, repeatedly reproduced in textbooks and other publications, as well as in film and television. It is a selection that the author made from all the archives accessible at the time, between Paris and Moscow, and later also in Washington and Jerusalem, curating tens of thousands of images into a visual history. The Yellow Star depicts the suffering of millions of people in eight chapters.
