Product details

The ring collection of Alice and Louis Koch was initially assembled by a jeweler from Frankfurt am Main, who was once regarded as the German "Cartier and Fabergé." By 1909, it already included 1,722 rings from antiquity to 1900. The contemporary artist René Lalique was represented, undoubtedly as a modernizer of the ring form. Over the past 25 years, the fourth generation of the family has continued the collecting activity where Louis Koch and his wife Alice left off: they expanded the collection to include rings from the 20th and 21st centuries. This publication presents for the first time the entire collection of contemporary rings, preserved in the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. Around 600 rings by jewelry artists from around the world document how this miniature form evolved into modern small sculpture, incorporating new materials and techniques, bold designs, and current trends.
