The first part, titled "The First Part of Henry the Sixth," was created around 1589-90, while the other two, "The First Part of the Contention of the Two Famous Houses of York and Lancaster" and "The True Tragedy of Richard Duke of York and the Good King Henry the Sixth," were written around 1590-92. Together with the play "Richard III," they form the so-called York Tetralogy.
