The demoscene is a network of computer enthusiasts that existed long before the structures of today's Internet communities. At the center of this creative subculture is the production and exchange of audiovisual presentations, so-called "demos," which are not digitally created films but programs that are run in real time on commercially available PCs or even on antiquated home computers. The first German-language book on this subject provides insight into the motivations, production methods, and "rules of the game" of the demoscene, which discovered the fast-moving computer as artistic material.
