The new volume of the KUNSTmaterial series published by the Swiss Institute for Art Research SIK-ISEA focuses on the paintings of Cuno Amiet. The emphasis is on his work from 1890 to 1941. Through established interdisciplinary collaboration among art history, style criticism, and technology, the canvases, stretchers, frames, primers, paints, and varnishes used by Amiet are examined in a representative selection of his paintings from this period. The comparison with the work of Ferdinand Hodler provides additional insights into both artists. Imaging methods and material analytical procedures have enabled a solid research effort at the highest level, the results of which are comprehensively presented in this book.
