Every year, the magazine GEO calls for an inventory of our environment on the Day of Biodiversity. In 2008, the Association of Leisure Riders and Drivers in Germany (VFD) took this opportunity to raise awareness among horse owners about biodiversity in their pastures and meadows. In areas where space is limited, grasslands are often reduced to mere paddocks, resulting in horse keeping being considered one of the biggest environmental sins today. However, outside of grazed nature reserves, there are also private horse pastures where orchids, daffodils, sand straw flowers, and felt herbs grow. Yet, not all horse owners are aware of the rare plants blooming on their land! These rare plants can only be preserved in the long term if their needs are understood and taken into account. This book aims to introduce horse owners to grazed vegetation.
