Everything changes for David Rudan when he meets the singer Simone Thalmann. His love for her propels him into action, having been held back by an illness for a long time: David sets out, writes, travels – and begins to explore the life of Alban Berg: the composer for whom everything changed when he fell in love with the Prague Jewess Hanna Fuchs-Werfel. For over ten years, he wrote her letters; his unfulfilled love became the driving force behind his work and his music. By delving into the story of Alban Berg, in order to seek the familiar in the foreign, David finds answers to his questions about the possibilities and limits of love, its failures, and its utopias. Two love stories are told, one set in the context of the Second Viennese School, the other in the present, on a journey from Zurich to the Dalmatian coast.
